Area Information Ishigaki
Ishigaki Island is a 1 hour flight away from the Okinawa main island, and is also the gateway to the Yaeyama Islands consisting of Iriomote Island, Taketomi Island, Kohama Island, Kuro Island, Shinjyo Island, Hateruma Island, and Yonaguni Island.
Recently, there are direct flights from Tokyo and Osaka, making it an accessible and popular remote island destination.
The subtropical nature, beautiful sea, and red-tiled houses make up the scenery. It is an attractive destination to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of a remote island.
Known for the black pearl farms, Kabira Bay is a famous scenic spot in Ishigaki Island. It is a cove on the northwest coast, and nine small islands are scattered in the bay entrance. The clear blue ocean, white sand beach, and small green islands make up the landscape said to be the most beautiful in Ishigaki Island. Although swimming is prohibited due to the fast tidal flow in the bay, you can enjoy the underwater scenery on a glass boat. Black pearls have been farmed in the bay since the Taisho Period.
Ishigaki Island City Public Market
The Ishigaki Island City Public Market is a public market located in the Euglena Mall (formerly known as Ayapani Mall). In the 3-floor building, the first, semi-underground floor has products for local residents such as vegetables, fruit, fish, and meat, and the second floor has a Ishigaki Island special products centre that sells souvenir items for tourists. There is also a cafeteria on the third floor.
Ishigaki Port Rito Terminal
The Ishigaki Island RIto Terminal is the gateway to the Yaeyama Islands. Boats connect remote islands of Yaeyama such as Taketoji Island, Iriomote Island, and Kohama Island. In the terminal, you will find boat company offices, travel agencies, and shops selling snacks and items for beachgoers.
The waiting lobby is spacious and equipped with coin lockers and bank ATMs, so you can leave to the remote islands at ease.
Maesato Beach is a resort beach directly in front of the ANA Intercontinental Ishigaki Resort, which boasts beautiful marine blue ocean views and white sand. Non-guests are also permitted to use the beach. Lifeguards are present during the season, so families can enjoy it worry-free.
